Pool remodeling · Deck-surface planning

Kool Deck and textured pool deck overlays for North Texas remodels.

Start with the existing deck and the exact proposed system—not a generic product name—before defining surface preparation, repairs, color, texture, transitions, and scope.

Tan textured deck surrounding a curved swimming pool and raised spa in a King Pools project archive

What this King Pools photograph shows

A textured tan deck around an existing pool and spa.

The archived image documents the visible color, texture, control joints, coping transitions, raised-spa edge, and relationship between the deck and surrounding structures.

The surviving archive does not identify this surface as Kool Deck brand, record the installed product, establish the substrate or preparation, or prove a performance result. King Pools does not assign a brand or specification to the surface without the corresponding project record.

Name the product accurately

Kool Deck is a brand; textured deck is a broader description.

Branded topping

Kool Deck® is a Mortex-branded concrete topping. Its official product information and application instructions—not a photograph—define the product and its installation requirements.

Generic deck terms

Homeowners and contractors may use cool deck, spray texture, textured deck, or overlay for different systems. Those phrases do not establish the manufacturer, chemistry, preparation, or compatibility.

Existing conditions

Document cracks, movement, drainage, slopes, joints, coatings, repairs, coping and wall transitions before deciding whether the deck belongs in a targeted repair or a broader remodel.

Written selection

Record the manufacturer, product, color, texture, preparation, application requirements, repair allowances, transitions, and exclusions in the approved scope.

Deck surface or full remodel?

Coordinate the deck with the pool edge and the rest of the backyard.

A deck-surface decision can affect coping transitions, steps, drains, door thresholds, walls, equipment pads, patios, and other surfaces. Review those connections before selecting color or texture alone.

When the project also changes tile, coping, interior finish, drainage, equipment, lighting, or outdoor-living areas, keep the deck inside one coordinated pool-remodeling plan.

Use the King Pools project gallery and decking material library to compare visible details, then bring the property-specific questions into the scope review.

Textured pool deck questions

Verify the surface before specifying the solution.

Is every textured pool deck a Kool Deck surface?

No. Kool Deck® is a Mortex-branded concrete topping. Terms such as cool deck, textured deck, spray texture, and deck overlay are also used generically, so a photograph or casual product name does not confirm the installed system.

Can a textured overlay be added during a pool remodel?

It may be part of a substantial remodeling scope, but the existing substrate, cracks or movement, drainage, elevations, transitions, prior coatings, and manufacturer-specific application requirements need to be evaluated before a product or preparation method is selected.

What should a written deck-surface scope identify?

The scope should identify the selected product or system, color and texture, preparation, repairs, transitions, drainage-related work, application requirements, excluded conditions, and how concealed or changing site conditions will be handled.
